What a shock Tuesday lunch time turned out to be. I am very proud of the way Room 3 children conducted themselves. I trust you are all ok and that your homes aren't too badly damaged.
Keep checking the Ministry of Education website (http://www.minedu.govt.nz/) and our school website (http://www.christtheking.school.nz/) for updates about school.
Take care.

At maths time we have been learning about patterns. We walked around the school and found lots of patterns. You can see our photos and descriptions on the chart in the classroom. We have also made patterns using different equipment. On Friday we made two coloured patterns. We discovered that we can make lots of different patterns with just two colours.
Have a great weekend, enjoy reading the Nursery Rhymes, and keep looking for patterns all around you.

Term 1 Week 2
After a very hot sunny weekend the weather changed dramatically and we had our first wet school day. The children were well behaved and enjoyed checking out the games and activities in the classroom.
Thank you, Benjamin, it's great to have you in our room. We are proud of you.
This week we will continue to read Nursery Rhymes. We also began group reading today.
We will be learning our Mihi - this is a way of introducing ourselves and making connections to our families. The children need to know the names of their father and mother as well as the town or city where they were born. Please write this on a piece of paper and give to your child to bring to school.
Our Phonics focus is: the names and sounds of vowels.
In Mathematics we are learning about patterns.
Your support with reading at home is invaluable, thank you.

Term 1 Week 1 'Star of the Week'
Our first week back at school is over. I have had a great time getting to know the children and learning what they can do. They have been fantastic learning the Room 3 routines and taking responsibility for looking after their things. Thanks for your support with this.
We have worked hard on our poetry responses and now have a lovely wall of Humpty Dumpties to go with our mice - come in and see them.
The children have written a couple of stories with their first ones already published and displayed in the classroom. You can read today's stories below. I am impressed with their attitude and concentration at writing time.
Our first ‘Star of the Week’ for 2011 is Isla.
Isla has made a great start to the year. She is a great role model because she listens to instructions and follows them. She has lovely manners and participates in all activities.
Thank you, Isla, it's great to have you in Room 3.
